This plaque is carved with dragons, a symbol of benevolence and power. Dragons with five claws also represent the Emperor, and this plaque bears an imperial reign mark. The central design of magpies and plum blossoms, indicates the approach of happiness. Magpies and plum blossom give rise to a Chinese punning expression meaning being ‘happy to the tips of one’s eyebrows’. Below is a pair of ducks, a reference to marital happiness.
