The whole elaborate vase is carved with Daoist scenes. Around the lid are the fairy handmaidens of the Royal Lady of the West, walking on clouds around one of the beautiful halls built of marble and jasper in her Western Paradise. Cartouches at the base of the lid show some of the Eight Daoist Immortals. On the neck are the Immortals and their attendants riding on sacred animals through the sky (on clouds) holding lucky emblems. On the body of the vase divinites are riding in the procession, with outriders waving banners. In the background, ceremonies are taking place at altars. Aound the foot are the Daoist Immortals with their emblems.
