This work was one of his early designs that was later turned into lithographic prints for commercial production by The Curwen Press. Bawden would first cut the design into lino with his penknife, apply oil paint and then print onto the paper by standing on the lino. Although his designs were very popular at the time, they were perhaps too bold and individual for the home. Only a limited number were sold as wallpaper was not in fashion.
