This etching shows the Swiss town of Zermatt which lies beneath the Matterhorn Mountain. Beaumont frequently spent his holidays in Switzerland and often depicted alpine scenes. Zermatt is characteristic of Beaumont’s etchings with intricate detail and careful hatching creating a decorative effect on the surface of the work. It has an exaggerated viewpoint looking down towards the church, which is also typical of Beaumont’s compositions.
