Boyd & Evans have worked collaboratively since 1968 making images of everyday subjects and scenes with dreamlike and surreal qualities. This work is one in a series of five works from the 'Evidence Series' made in 1974. The artists use a spray gun to apply paint, giving the work a hyperreal and photographic appearance. The artists often leave few clues about their choice of subject matter. In this work, we see a painting within a painting: the youthful figure in the foreground has turned her back on the painting of the woman behind her who also seems to be gazing out of the painting back at the figure in blue. The two women are locked in a tangible yet illusionary relationship.
