The Arts and Crafts movement was led my William Morris himself and was inspired by the writing of John Ruskin and Augustus Pugin. They stood for traditional craftsmanship using simple forms often influenced by medieval or folk styles. This movement began just two years before Morris started designing wallpaper and other surface designs. This particular design was made in 1884 and came in several different colour co-ordinations.
