This work has paintings on both sides, an autumnal village scene on one side and a church, believed to be Church Warsop in Nottinghamshire painted on the reverse. Royle attended the Sheffield School of Art and was a member of the Sheffield Society of Artists. He lived in the city for many years and was particularly fond of painting Sheffield and its surrounding countryside.
