Spencer Gore has chosen to focus on the smiling woman reclining on a bed. He includes little else in the painting and doesn’t explore her personality in any way. There are strong horizontal and vertical lines here, and the hardness of the bed contrasts with the softness of the woman’s flesh. The painting is full of pattern, texture and warm colours which contrast with the brightness of the woman’s skin.
