This work is possibly a preliminary sketch for 'Untitled Anti War I' created in 1967, the first of a two part series depicting the pain and horror of war. She said of herself “From the mid 60s to the mid 70s I felt myself to be an artist of conscience and accountability; a witness.” This work by Lawson is an excellent example of her developing style. She began to restrict her colour palette to make one focus on the subject and topic in her work.
