Alfred Munnings was widely renowned for his paintings of racehorses, but here he has chosen to paint a working horse instead. From a young age, he had a love for horses; looking after and riding them. He predominantly painted outdoors, creating quick rough sketches on paper, transferring his drawings to canvas and paint. He loved painting racing scenes and drawing informal studies of horses.
