This watercolour shows one of many Sheffield steel workers, contributing to the war effort. Sheffield played a large part during both World Wars and because of this was targeted and heavily bombed by the Germans in the Second World War. During the 1940s Vivian Pitchforth painted a large number of factory subjects, including munitions and steel factories.
