This Spanish landscape depicts the mountain town of Rhonda and was painted at the outbreak of the First World War. Alfredo Müller never visited Spain and this painting is believed to have been painted from a postcard pinned to his easel in his studio in Florence. Müller had a fascination with the use of colour and the changing light. He was greatly influenced by French Post-Impressionists, such as Paul Cézanne.
