This is one of a series of ‘spinning men’ made by Elisabeth Frink. The figures sometimes have pilots’ flight goggles or flying suits, and they hang out of control in space. This spinning man explores themes of human character and experience that can also be found in Frink’s sculpture. Her subject matter is usually animals, birds and men, and she used their behaviour to explore issues such as war, suffering and masculine identity.
