Bawden produced many murals throughout his career. These two designs were commissioned by the Director of Arts at the Graves Art Gallery for a brick mural on the rear of Sheffield Central Library. Bawden took on the challenge with great enthusiasm. He visited Sheffield to carry out the designs and studied the building from across the valley. Unfortunately the designs were never carried out. Sheffield has many brick murals and wall art throughout the city, including Steelworker by Paul Waplington and the Vultures by Ric Bingham.
