This is a 'Sims' type curette made of stainless steel. It was manufactured in Sheffield by W Skidmore & Company Ltd, around 1974.
A curette is a surgical instrument designed for removal of tissue or debris. At the tip of the curette is a small scoop with a hole in the centre to allow fluid to slow through. Surgeons use a curette to remove part of the lining or contents of the uterus when there is abnormal or excess tissue.
