This boxed set of stainless steel table knives with xylonite (plastic) handles date from the early days of stainless steel manufacture. At this time there were a multitude of different trade names for the new tarnish resisting steel, from ‘rustless’ and ‘stainproof’ to ‘rusnorstain’ and ‘neverustain’. The names were designed to convey a concept which, at the time, was still quite novel and unfamiliar to the average customer.
