This is a bowl made of brass. It is recorded as originating from Sumatra, which is an island in Western Indonesia. This is recorded as a ‘large brass bowl from a magistrate’. It is engraved with a repeating pattern, with numbers in shields. Numbers 1-8 appear in an anticlockwise order, and below them numbers 11-18 appear in clockwise order. On the underside of the base a figure of a stag lying down has been applied to the surface. This is rather crudely done and appears to have been added to the design at a later date.
