The design of this bowl is called Splash. It was designed by Tim Parsons and manufactured by the firm A R Wentworth (Sheffield) Ltd. The bowl was produced using an innovative technique called drip casting. This was developed by Tim Parsons and Wentworth's. To make the bowl, molten pewter is gathered in a ladle and dripped onto a steel tool in the form of an upturned bowl. As the pewter hits the tooling, it cools and solidifies. This process is repeated until a bowl of the required shape and thickness has been created. The object is then removed from the tool. The drip casting technique means that the finished bowl has an unusual, liquid appearance.
