In 2016 a memorial sculpture to the ‘Women of Steel’ was erected outside Sheffield City Hall at Barker’s Pool. The memorial is a tribute to the women of Sheffield who worked in the city’s steel mills and factories during both world wars.

To coincide with the unveiling of the statue, the Sheffield Assay Office created special commemorative silver medallions to honour the women who worked in the munitions factories. Over 400 of these were presented after the unveiling of the memorial statue on 17th June 2016. The coin is engraved with the words: “With thanks to our wartime Women of Steel from the people of Sheffield.”
