This bowl was found in Cyprus. It was collected by Reverend Roosmalin in the 1800s.
Cyprus’s abundant natural resources and good geographical location put it at the centre of trade networks in the Eastern Mediterranean. Cypriot traders transported goods from country to country and traded with their neighbours for raw materials or manufactured items which were not available on the island, e.g. luxury bowls and plates. Trade enriched communities, attracted foreign settlers and introduced new social customs, artistic traditions and religious ideas.
