Jewellery and other items found in Anglo-Saxon burials indicate what people wore. They used brooches to fasten clothing as well as for decoration. Fashion, identity and status were expressed through different styles of brooch and beads. Craftspeople often used gold and garnets for luxury items. They may have used organic materials such as wood and leather but these do not usually survive in the ground.
