Two key gods were connected with the idea of the mummy. The jackal-headed god Anubis was associated with the mummification process itself. The mummified god Osiris was ruler of the afterlife and the most important god for the deceased.

This faience djed pillar amulet may represent the backbone of Osiris. It is a symbol of stability.
