This specimen of Smithsonite was found at Ecton mine. It is a mineral ore of Zinc, and as such, is a valuable industrial source of Zinc. It can also contain other metals, including Copper and Iron. The mineral was named in honour of James Smithson, who helped found the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.
