Artist: Rose Helen Mawson , 1855 - 1936
Department: Natural History
Accession Number: M1942.1.143
Rose Mawson was an art teacher and botanical illustrator living in Sheffield, born 1855. Rose was disabled, and spent her time painting pictures of wildflowers that were brought to her by friends and neighbours. These scientifically accurate watercolours were left to her sister, Ann. In 1942, Ann offered the illustrations to the museum as a token of her gratitude for the pleasure she had taken from a wildflower exhibition shown in the museum entrance hall.
