This specimen is part of a folio of pressed seaweeds collated by Margaret Gatty and her daughter, Horatia. Most of the contents of the folio were collected between 1850 to 1864. The Gatty's have a few specimens from Devon, and one is known to have been provided by the Devon based phycologist, Catherine Cutler. It is possible that this specimen was also collected by Cutler.
