Common Name: Long-eared Owl
Date Made/Found: c.1947
Place Object Found: Wingerworth
Department: Natural History
Accession Number: 1967.854
This Long-eared Owl fell out of its nest as a baby, in Wren Park Wood, a small area of woodland near Wingerworth. It was found and hand reared to adulthood by a caring passer by. When it eventually died, the owner had it preserved to remember it. Long-eared Owls are very difficult to spot in the wild, so this specimen is a particularly valuable record of the species.
