Donor: Mrs Horatia Katharine Frances Eden , British, 1846 - 1945
Place Object Found: The Bahamas
Department: Natural History
Accession Number: G1909.26
The donor of this specimen of coral, Horatia Eden, is perhaps better known as the daughter of Margaret Gatty. Between them, Margaret and Horatia ammassed a huge collection of seaweeds and sea mats. This specimen, collected in 1879 from the Bahamas, is a type of coral - not a group normally associated with the Gattys. It goes to show how wide an interest the two had.
