Shop vans were a familiar sight in many areas of Sheffield, especially bakery vans which came around the housing estates bringing the smell of freshly baked bread. Fletcher’s had a large factory on Claywheels Lane and their dark red and tan coloured vans were a familiar sight on the city’s streets. Generations of Sheffield residents knew its well-known advertising slogan, ‘Better Fetch a Fletcher’s Loaf’.
