Justice for Trans Prisoners
placard
Date Made/Found: 2018
Dimensions: Overall: 710 × 345mm
Department: Social History
Accession Number: 2019.37
This placard was made by members of Sheffield Action for Trans Health for the No More Trans Deaths demonstration at HMP Doncaster on 11 February 2018. The event was held to protest the death of trans prisoner Jenny Swift, who committed suicide on 30 December 2016.

The demonstration called for justice in the treatment of trans people in custody and demanded an end to transmisogynist harassment and the withholding of medication from trans inmates in prisons. The activists that took part “gathered at 5pm to avoid disrupting visitors, and brought loudspeakers, drums, and even pots and pans, to be as audible as possible, letting those inside know they are not forgotten, and letting guards know that what happened with Jenny Swift has not been forgotten either”(E, 2019).
