This attendance board was used at St. Barnabus’ School on Cecil Road. The school was built after the 1870 Elementary Education Act was passed. The Act was for the national provision of schooling for children between the ages of 5 and 10. Locally elected school boards were set up to build and manage the new schools. St. Barnabus’ School was demolished around 1978 as part of the clearance scheme in the area, which is now Mount Pleasant Park.
