These rugby boots and rainbow laces have been donated to the collections by Sheffield Vulcans RUFC. Rainbow Laces is a campaign by Stonewall for LGBT equality in sport, and wearing the laces is a way to show support for this. Sheffield Rainbow Laces holds community football events to promote inclusivity.

“Sheffield Vulcans RUFC is Sheffield’s only inclusive rugby club. There are currently 29 inclusive teams in the UK with 106 teams worldwide. Sport is a big area that LGBT+ people avoid due to discrimination usually stemming from experiences at school. A lot of our members, including myself, had never played rugby since then, and so it has been a learning curve but also an important social activity that many members have benefitted from”.
