Wag Wood lies to the north-west of Dore, in south-west Sheffield. At the time of this painting, Dore village was within Derbyshire, but later boundary changes mean it is now located in Sheffield and South Yorkshire.
Wagwood Quarry may have been in use into the 1920s, but maps show that by the 1950s it was unused and overgrown. The stone dug there was used for local building construction and the remains of a quarry are still visible today.
