This fabric bat was tied to a lime tree on Rustlings Road in Sheffield. The tree was marked for removal as part of the Streets Ahead program by Amey, commissioned by Sheffield City Council. The program was strongly protested against by people all over the city who wanted to keep their street trees. In November 2016 eight trees on Rustlings Road were cut down in the early morning to try and avoid protests and disruption. The fabric bat was cut in half by a chainsaw during the process. Three people were arrested for refusing to move away from the trees, and the operation received national and international attention. In 2019, a new street tree strategy was adopted by the council.
