This scene shows a man resting in the foreground as he looks out over the River Don at Wardsend, near Hillsborough. In the distance is the industrial town of Sheffield. Wardsend Cemetery is on the hillside to the right. It was consecrated by the Archbishop of York in 1859 as an overspill burial ground for the nearby St Philip's Church.
