This sampler was embroidered by Ann Warrington in 1830, when she was 12 years old. In the centre of the sampler Ann has embroidered verses from 'The Fall of the Leaf'. The poem was written by the Bishop of Norwich, George Horne, in the late-eighteenth century and was inspired by Isaiah 64:6: 'we all do fade as a leaf'. The embroidery which decorates the bottom of Ann's sampler shows Adam and Eve standing beneath the Tree of Knowledge, surrounded by various animals including leopards and parrots. Along the bottom edge of the sampler a shepherd and shepherdess tend to their flock of sheep.
