This is a birthday postcard from the Gloops Club, sent to Miss Kathleen Gohery. Gloops was a cartoon animal from the Star newspaper, and his children’s club was created in 1928. The club was run by newspaper staff, who were all known in public as “Aunt Edith”. The Gloops club raised money for disadvantaged children, through selling Gloops’ comic, special concerts, and other activities, and by 1957 had collected over £25,000.
