The house in this painting was the home of Robert Bennet, the organist at Sheffield Parish Church (now Sheffield Cathedral.) His son, the composer and music teacher Sir William Sterndale Bennett, was born in the house. The building later formed part of the Richard Richardson Cornwall Works (electroplate manufacturers) before it was demolished in the 20th century.
