This recipe for ‘Wonder Ointment’ was passed down to Annie Barker. Annie made this remedy at home in Upperthorpe. It could be used to treat ‘boils, carbuncles and septic sores’ and was used in the family. Annie sold the ointment locally in Crookes. The family recipe was kept a secret and it was eventually passed down to relatives, who continued to make Wonder Ointment for the family till 1997. Boils and carbuncles are infectious skin conditions.
