This First World Ward postcard was sent from Egypt to Ann Hackney by her son William. On the reverse of the postcard he has written "My Dear Mother! Am sending you a small present and will send you a photograph of myself tomorrow, its the goods here. I will post the parcel same time. Fondest of love dear. Cheer up, my best regards, from Will". Although his full war service records haven't survived, William's medal records show that he served as a Bombardier and later as a Sergeant with the Royal Field Artillery. He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star medal, which was given to those who served in the 1914-1915 campaigns.
